Red House Solar Farm
Green Nation has submitted a planning application to the Vale of White Horse District Council (Application No. P23/V2624/FUL) for a 49.9MW Solar Farm and associated infrastructure on land to the west of Red House Farm, Farmoor, OX2 9ND.
A separate planning application for the underground cable route has been submitted to Oxford City Council (Application No. 23/02816/FUL). If you would like a hard copy or digital copy of any documents published on the Oxford City Council planning application please do get in touch with us via the online form at the bottom of this website.
The proposed development would create enough renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 9,000 homes per year which would offset 23,161 tonnes of CO2 each year.
In addition to having solar panels on the site, the proposal also includes a biodiversity net gain and landscape enhancement measures. Sheep will graze around and beneath the solar panels once operational, therefore offering dual use for the land.
Introducing Red House Solar Farm
Local Benefits of the Solar Farm
The solar farm will fund sustainable projects that directly benefit the local community.
Sustainable zero-carbon energy to power 9,000 homes, providing a local source of clean energy.
Helps reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change - a saving of 23,161 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Will support an increased number of plant and animal species, including protected species, within the solar farm site.
The site will promote long term soil formation and protection as well as provide carbon storage and recycling.
Good design and careful positioning limit the impact to the existing landscape.
The site will remain in agricultural production and enable sheep to graze.
The site will allow the land to rest and will be returned to full agricultural use at the end of its life span (30 years).
Thank you to everyone who attended our public consultation events
Getting to Net Zero
The British government was the first national government in the world to declare a Climate Emergency in May 2019 and has set a legally binding target of Net Zero emissions by 2050 (relative to 1990 levels). At local level many councils, including the Vale of White Horse Council, have made similar declarations.
Renewables now account for approximately 43% of UK electricity generation proving they are a very viable alternative to fossil fuels. However, to achieve targets and tackle Climate Change, we urgently require a rapid increase in the further deployment of renewables, including solar.
About Green Nation
We have been in business for 11 years and in that time have developed several solar farms while also working with hundreds of owners to put solar on houses, schools and commercial buildings.
We now manage solar farms and rooftop systems, generating millions of kilowatt hours of electricity annually for businesses, communities and neighbourhoods. Our experience of successfully managing dozens of operational solar farms influences how we develop new sites, to ensure they enhance local wildlife and plants at the same time as producing power effeciently
We have continued to grow and expand our base in the UK whilst maintaining our mission of providing affordable and sustainable energy for all.
